ABOUT THE PROJECT
La Medusa Dormiente is part of a series of artworks I created about Medusa, exploring her innocence and the injustice of her story. The piece was included in the collection and became one of the finalists for the 2023 Beautiful Bizarre Magazine contest. While I didn’t win that year, I was incredibly proud to be recognized and to have my work featured alongside some of my favorite artists in this amazing publication.
The Medusa collection as a whole is heavily inspired by feminism and the power of women, and La Medusa Dormiente embodies this vision. Through this project, I learned how to convey nuanced storytelling and emotion through illustration, and how to create work that resonates both conceptually and visually. Being a finalist and seeing my artwork published gave me confidence in my creative voice and reaffirmed the importance of producing work that is meaningful and reflective of my values.

CHALLENGES
One of the challenges of this project was translating the complexity of Medusa’s story into a single artwork while keeping it visually compelling and emotionally resonant. I also aimed to balance the mythical and symbolic elements with a modern, feminist perspective, highlighting the strength and resilience of women while honoring the narrative of Medusa as more than just a monster.
